It’s not technically even fall yet, but people are already excited about pumpkins, sweaters, and all things autumn. Whether you love the fall season or are mourning over the fact that there are only two weeks of summer left, everyone has a fall season check-list, from cleaning up the garden to decorating the porch. But there’s one very important task that you should add to your list: schedule an HVAC maintenance appointment.
At JC & JC HVAC, we know that keeping a warm house during the winter months is incredibly important for you and your family. And after years of experience in the heating and cooling industry, we also know how important it is to have a regular maintenance checkup done before any significant issues develop. If you’re not convinced that having a professional HVAC contractor inspect your heating and cooling system is worth it, here are a few things that we will do to ensure that your system is working properly and efficiently.

What Does a Heating and Cooling Maintenance Appointment Include?

We’ll Replace Your Air Filter

Switching out your home’s air filter should be done three to four times a year, depending on the quality of the filter, if you have pets, if anyone in your household has allergies, or how often the HVAC system is used. If you’re not sure how to change the filter, feel free to ask your HVAC contractor and we’ll be happy to show you. A clean air filter will ensure that dust and small particles are trapped and not floating around in the air you breathe.

We’ll Calibrate Your Thermostat

Communication between the HVAC system and your thermostat is essential to ensure that when you plug in 76 degrees into your thermostat, that the components of the HVAC system will work correctly to heat your home to that specific temperature. When your thermostat isn’t properly calibrated, the HVAC system won’t know what to do, and could result in your home not being heated.

We’ll Lubricate Any Moving Parts

There are several mechanical parts in the HVAC system that can cause damage when they aren’t properly lubricated. The blower motor and control valves are both examples of moving parts that need to be lubricated in order to reduce friction, allowing the system to function as efficiently as possible.

We’ll Inspect The Fuel Lines

It’s no surprise that a leak in the fuel line, or even a disconnected line, could cause performance issues, but it could also be a fire hazard. We’ll thoroughly inspect fuel lines as well as the heat exchanger for any leaks or accumulated soot that can cause cracks in the system.

We’ll Measure The Motor’s Voltage and Current

If the motor isn’t working properly, it will prevent warm air from flowing through the system and your home. We’ll closely inspect any electrical components of the system as well.

We’ll Inspect The Condensate Drain

The condensate drain collects any excess moisture that is produced during the heating process. Any excess moisture can cause mold, water damage, and can affect the air quality in your home. Our HVAC contractors will flush and clean the drain to make sure all water flows away from the system.

We’ll Inspect The Exhaust Outlets

Exhaust outlets make sure that any carbon monoxide or other harmful gases are being released into the air outside your home, instead of inside. We’ll look closely for anything that could be blocking the vents or outlets or any leaks in the ductwork.

We’ll Inspect The Gas Pressure, Burner Combustion, and Heat Exchanger

Without the right level of gas being supplied to the system, the combustion process won’t function properly, which will affect how the heat exchanger functions as well. These are all essential components of your heating system and when they aren’t working correctly or efficiently, then your home won’t be heated.

We’ll Look For Potential HVAC Repairs

The most important part of a maintenance appointment is that our HVAC contractors will look for any problems that may develop in the next couple months. We know that the last thing you want, especially in the dead of winter, is for your furnace to stop working. By being proactive and looking for issues now, it could save you a lot of frustration and money in the future.
